How To Use Microsoft Self Help Software To Fix All Pc Computer Error Causing Problems Such As Freezing Computer, Spyware, Virus, Trojan Horse, Malware

Understanding how not to fix pc errors, remove computer virus, pc worm, computer Trojan, spyware, malware and adware is really one of the first things to be known. The reason to this effect is from the fact that most pc computer owners and users alike keep trying all manner and sorts of approaches towards fixing some of their computer related errors. Because, they have not known what and what that does not work, or solve problem, their machines will finally end up suffering crash as a result of being subjected to various experimental procedures and trials and error.

Like the inventor of the electric bulb, Thomas Edison usually say, “I have learnt a thousand ways not to make electric bulb, and I have learnt one sure way to make electric bulb’. This is his statement after he has tried and failed 999 times before he finally and successfully made what we all know today to be the modern day electric bulb.

In personal computing and solving some computer problems, the problem many users run into is that of cross of functionality of most trouble fixing software. By this I mean most pc users deploy for example, the software for removing spyware, which is antispyware software, use the same software as antimalware or to remove adware. Even though closely related, a recent expert group review in our software analysis laboratory have shown that a string of differences occur among all these software.

The best approach to personal computing is to put the square peg in the square hole, that is try all you can to use a reviewed software first, and make sure your software usage is in line with the diagnosed problem with the system.

The best approach is to use an antispyware or spyware remover to remove spyware if there’s one in you system after scanning, and use an anti malware to remove malwares and end running of malicious programs and not vice versa, also use anti virus to remove virus, use smart security software as a firewall or to build security and prevent malicious threats from internet browsing/surfing and e-mail related dangers especially spam and spamming activities that can endanger your computer security.

How to Keep Your PC Computer Laptop and Desktop Running Fast and Smooth

It is quiet a bit easy and within your reach on how to keep your computer running at a very fast computer speed as if it is a newly purchased computer if you just do a little PC tweaking, optimization and regular maintenance. If you have already let it go, don't worry, you can bring back the performance of your PC computer which it had when it was new and then keep it that way. There are only a few simple problems that slow down most computers. Read on and you will learn how to correct those problems and then make sure they never bother you again. Windows XP Operating System (this is my reference OS for writing this self help how-to guides and tips)

Step One

Keep Your Desktop and Hard Disk Tidy
Is your computer desktop your virtual dumping group? Storing files and/or lots of shortcuts on your computer's desktop will demand more memory from the computer. It is ok to keep some commonly used items here (or better yet shortcuts) but don't make a habit of sprawling out all of your work on the Desktop. If you deal with a lot of documents or files on a regular basis, create a temporary work folder instead of littering the desktop.

If you are big on downloading software, videos or music, be sure to clean up after yourself. Don't leave setup programs or media files on your hard disk that you are never going to use again; this just wastes your computer's valuable disk space. Likewise, do not let your recycle bin or various temporary file folders fill up and fill your hard disk. If your disk space gets too low for any of these reasons, performance problems are sure to follow.

To easily empty your recycle bin and various temporary file folders, such as your temporary Internet folder, use Window's build in "Disk Cleanup" utility. Access the "Disk Cleanup" utility by clicking:
Start - > All Programs - > Accessories - > System Tools - > Disk Cleanup

The tool is very easy to use; simply check the boxes next to the categories of files you would like to remove from your computer. There is one option to avoid however: "Compress Old Files". This is meant to save disk space if a drive is running very low, but for this option, saved space is traded for performance.

Step Two

De-fragment Your Hard Disk Regularly
The way your computer stores files to the hard disk is a lot less pretty than what you see in your Windows Explorer file browser. The Windows operating system translates the digital mess of what is actually recorded on your hard disk so you can understand it. It also translates your clicks, drags and keystrokes into instructions the hard disk understands. The hard disk is read and written to in a sequence and through references rather than through the directory tree structure you may be familiar with. There are also many hidden files and some abstract data recorded to your hard disk that Windows constantly accesses.

Over time, with perpetual reads and writes to the hard disk, the way that the data is organized there becomes less and less efficient. For example, a digital photo you have saved may be split up into a dozen or more segments and an instruction set for associating and locating those pieces. YES! WHAT A MESS! Also, files that your computer needs to access very frequently may be stored on a part of the hard disk that is the slowest to read, while your report on Dinosaurs from the 3rd grade (or some other equally obscure file you'll never look at again) is stored on the fastest part of the disk.
When your hard disk gets in this gross state of disorder it is said to be fragmented, and your computer begins to crawl.
Fortunately, Windows has a built in tool, "Disk Defragmenter", which can correct the data fragmentation on your hard disk fairly quickly.
The tool can be accessed by clicking:
Start - > Programs - > Accessories - > System Tools - > Disk Defragmenter
The program is very easy to use. Once you have started "Disk Defragmenter", all you have to do is click the "Defragment" button and let it do its magic.
The time the process takes to complete depends on how bad the fragmentation of your hard disk is. If you have not "defragged" your hard disk before, you will probably see an improvement in your computers performance as soon as the process is complete.

Note: Complete Step 1 before defragmenting your hard disk since there is no sense in rearranging data you are going to delete anyway. Failing to do so will also unnecessarily slow down the defragmentation process.

Note: You can defragment your hard disk as often as you like. The more often you do so, the less time it will take.

Step Three

Keep Your Computer Free from Viruses (and other unwanted software)
If you are connected to the Internet, it is just too easy to come into contact with malicious computer viruses. Some viruses will slow down your computer and maybe corrupting your favorite files, while others will complete destroy your computer's software and render the machine useless. Therefore, it is essential that your computer be equipped with modern anti-virus software. There are many anti-virus packages to choose from, so consult with friends and hit the web to see which packages people have had the most success with.

Whether you pick a brand name or opt for a freebee, make sure you keep the anti-virus software's "definitions" up to date. Virus definitions let the anti-virus software distinguish known viruses from other software. New virus threats are constantly emerging, so it is essential for your anti-virus software to have a feature that regularly updates these definitions.

Computer viruses are not the only annoyances that can plague your computer experience. Two other groups of unwanted software, adware and spyware, can slow down your system. These types of software are not technically viruses because their purpose is not purely malicious. Adware is designed to advertise products and services to you through your computer, while spyware is designed to capture information from your system and transmit it to someone else. Obviously, you do not want any of this software running on your computer, irregardless of the fact that it will contribute to a computer's sluggish performance.

Some anti-virus software packages are bundled with anti-adware and spyware software, and there are other packages solely devoted to detecting and removing this type of software. Again, do some research because there are many choices. As with the anti-virus software, these detection and removal tools need to be kept up to date to be effective.

Step Four

Make All of the Above Easy
Even if you are fairly technically savvy, but especially if you're not, you probably wondering, "how often do I have to do ALL of that?", and "will it be worth it?" Well, you can make sure all of these things get done everyday, or even more often, with just a little up-front work. "Set it and forget it" sort-to-speak.
Everything mentioned in steps 1 through 3 can be automated using Window's built in feature to schedule tasks, and a simple batch file. Batch files contain a set of instructions for your computer to follow, which can be called upon at a specific and recurring time by Window's "Scheduled Tasks" manager.

How to Create a Batch Files:

To create a batch file:
Click Start - > Run Enter "notepad" Click "Ok". The notepad editor will appear.
Type out the commands you want completed, in order and each on a separate line. (Specific commands will be mentioned below)

Next, save the file by clicking: File - > Save

Save the file to a location and with a name you will remember. As an example, you could save the file under "C:\" and call it "maintenance.bat".

Be sure to change the "save as type" from the default of "Text Documents" to "All Files", and to include the ".bat" as part of the filename.

Note: To later make changes or corrections to the batch file, locate it, right click it and select "edit" at any later date.

Step Five

Automatic Disk Cleanup:

So that "Disk Cleanup" can be included in your automated maintenance, you must first set the options you would like the "Disk Cleanup" utility to use when "Scheduled Tasks" executes it. To set these options:
Click Start - > Run

Type "cleanmgr /sageset:1"

Click the "ok" button

The "Disk Cleanup Settings" windows will appear.

Check off the items you want automatically cleaned up, as described in step 1 above.

Click the "ok" button

The settings are now saved.

To include "Disk Cleanup" in your automated process, save the command "cleanmgr /sagerun: 1" in your batch file.

Step Six

Automatic Defragment:
Including a hard disk defrag in your automated process simply requires another entry in your batch file. Include a line that reads, "defrag c:" in the batch and you are done. Remember to include this line after the "Disk Cleanup" command, as this will speed up your whole maintenance process.

Step Seven

Do everything to Stay Virus Free:
The specifics on how to include regular definition updates and scans for viruses, adwares and spywares is entirely dependant on the programs you have chosen for these tasks, but most can usually be initiated from a batch file. Consult with your vendors' websites or support staff. If any of these products cannot be initiated from your batch file, they probably have a built in means of scheduling the same important tasks.

Step Eight

Schedule It:
Once your batch file is complete, you can easily test it. Simply double click the batch file and it should complete all of the tasks you included. Note that it may take some time for the process to complete. If you have trouble, it may help to add the command "pause" at the end of the batch file so you can see where you went wrong.

If there is no convenient and regular time for you to schedule your batch file, you can continue to manually execute just as you did to test it. Another option is to include the command, "shutdown -s -f" at the very end of the batch file, which will turn off your computer after all of the commands are complete. Each time you are done using your computer for the day, close all of your programs and double click your batch file; your computer will take care of its maintenance and then power-down.

If there is a convenient time for your maintenance to be performed, perhaps in the middle of the night if your computer is left on, you can use Window's "Scheduled Tasks" feature to make your batch file execute automatically at that time. When scheduling, remember to allow enough time for all of the tasks to complete before you will need to use the computer again.

To schedule a task in Windows click:

Start - >All Programs - >Accessories - > System Tools - > Scheduled Tasks

Double-Click "Add Scheduled Task"

Click "Next"

Click "Browse"

Locate and select your batch file

Click "Open"

Select how often you would like your batch file executed

Click "Next"

Select the time you would like the batch file executed

Click "Next"

Enter the username and password for your computer if you have one

Click "Next"

Click "Finished"

The tasks you have defined will now run on a regular basis as you have specified. If you have included all of the tasks suggested above, you computer should run relatively trouble free for years to come.
Hurray, your personal computer got to run and operate very fast like a new pc now.

How to Keep your Computer Secure and Running Smoothly

These simple tips will help you protect your pc and keep your computer running smoothly and fast.

Step One

Secure your PC with a password
Always a good first step, protect yourself from unwelcomed people

Step Two

Keep Windows up to date by installing all updates
Whenever Microsoft detects a security flaw in windows, Microsoft always releases security patches to fix vulnerabilities.

Step Three

Install Security Software: Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Firewall, Spam Blocker, Anti-Malware
Even though you might think an anti-virus is enough, it is not. There is a slew of threats that anti-virus are not made to detect. Always install extra security. If you don't want to spend money, do not fret, there are plenty free security software available.

Step Four

Keep all security programs up to date
This includes anti-virus, firewall, and anti-spyware programs. Set them to automatically update.

Step Five

Scan your PC
Scan your PC for viruses, Trojans, worms, spyware, and malware at least once a week. If one virus gets through it can open the floodgates for more and make you computer not usable. The earlier you neutralize the threats the better your pc will work.

Step Six

Back up your valuable information regularly
If you can, buy an external hard drive to keep your vital information in case of computer failure.

Step Seven

Partition your Hard Drive
If possible separate your Hard Drive into two partitions. Make C: for windows, and D: or E: for downloads, video, photos, and everything else. Once you install windows don't touch the C drive. Most blue screens of death occur because people mess around with important windows and registry files.

Step Eight

Switch from Internet Explorer
Internet explorer is subjected to the largest number of security threats. Try a different browser, Firefox, Opera, or Google Chrome.

Step Nine

Be careful when downloading
Be careful when downloading from unknown sources, especially when downloading peer to peer. Try to abstain from downloading torrents and from programs like Limewire not only because it is illegal, also due to risk of viruses and its most of the time illegal. If you do download always scan the download for infections right away. Try to download from safe sources like download.com.

How to Uninstall Unwanted Programs?

As we know that it’s more difficult to uninstall programs than installing them. It’s observed that programs always leave their update folder or some DLL files. Some programs even leave their registry values in system registry. That’s why these programs still pop up after being uninstalled and strange DLL errors appear. Control panel is the most common method to uninstall a program. But it can’t completely remove all components of a program.

Users sometimes want to uninstall and reinstall a program, but there will be a pop up saying that program has been installed and our users can’t find it. Some users want to change their anti-virus or anti-spyware and uninstall them thru control panel. When they install another anti-virus or anti-spyware, there is another pop up saying their previous anti-virus or anti-spyware is still there, please uninstall it first.

In the above cases, users can’t find the uninstalled programs nor install the new ones. When users uninstall programs with Perfect Uninstaller, it will uninstall the program and scan the registry for the left over entries as well as drivers for the left over files. You can download Perfect Uninstaller and have a complete uninstall.

How to Fix Registry Errors and Optimize PC?

The Windows registry is a database that stores settings and options for Microsoft Windows operating systems. It contains information and settings for hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, and per-user settings. The registry also provides a window into the operation of the kernel, exposing runtime information such as performance counters and currently active hardware. Registry is so important that Microsoft suggest users not to edit it, or it will affect some functions of the system even cause system crash.

The most common registry error is DLL errors. If users frequently install and uninstall software, it can also leave some wrong uninstall entries in the registry. Some anti-virus or anti-spyware will false report and destroy DLL file of some soft ware. Without DLL file, the program will pop up some strange message and can’t run. Also, Control Panel can’t remove DLL files of soft ware. If these DLL files stay in registry, this will cause system errors. Day by day, registry is full of junk files and the computer will run slowly and slowly.

Registry Easy is a powerful registry fix and system optimize suite. Besides repairing all registry errors, like DLL errors and runtime errors, it can fully back up your registry, clean up all junk files created by the system, tweak memory and manage all your programs.

To repair DLL errors, please follow the steps:

Step 1: Download and install the program.

Download Registry Easy. Run setup and follow the instructions to install the application.

Step 2: Start the program and run a full scan.
If you run Registry Easy for the first time, it will automatically back up your registry.

Step 3: Click Repair Problems to completely optimize your system.

Besides DLL errors, Registry Easy can manage all add-in programs for Internet Explorer with its BHO Manager function. BHO stands for Browser Helper Object. Some BHOs are legitimate and facilitate some cool functions to IE, but there are also some BHOs which are adware or spyware. With Registry Easy, your IE can be protected. If your IE is already corrupted, its IE Restore feature can restore your IE to its original settings, like your hompage is changed, you can restore it.

How to Use Windows Defender to Scan for Spyware

This article guide is about scanning your pc in order to increase speed of your pc and enhance performance. Start a Scan now and go ahead to read up the guide

Several programs are in use today that you can use to scan and clean your computer to maintain a healthy long life for your system. It is enviable in most cases that you will have to load a fresh copy of Windows Vista on your system but regularly scanning the system with Windows Defender prologs things like this.

Step 1 Start by deciding what type of scan you want to run. You can scan the most common areas that spyware is found, you can scan a custom area which is the files and folders you choose, or you can choose to scan the whole system. For my maintenance schedule I run a short scan at least once a week. This is changed to about every 3 days if the speed of my system starts to slow down. I also run a full scan once a month to get the uncommon parts of my computer.

The following guide steps can serve you a reliable trick to scale through perfectly:

# Step 2 To run a quick scan click start then all programs and double click Windows Defender. This will open a new window that contains a few options. For the quick scan click Scan and enter your password if it asks for it.

# Step 3 The custom scan requires you to click the down arrow next to the scan button and then click custom scan. Click the "scan selected drives and folders" and then the select button. You should be able to pick the files and folders at this point and then click ok. You might be asked to enter your password.

# Step 4

For the full scan hit the down arrow next to the scan button and click full scan. Again you may need to enter your password if a prompt comes up.

The only way that gets fixed is by sending it back to the manufacturer and paying some good hard cash. I have personally seen PC bench techs in my own company Crowing I CAN DO IT! Only to see them reduced to blubbering red eyed zombies many days later.

Dell, Hewlett-Packard, and IBM started selling notebooks with trusted computing hardware some years ago, which locks specialized encryption keys in a data vault, essentially a chip on the computer's motherboard. This Is NOT the Bios Chip, it is separate and not easily found identified or hacked.

Lets summarize what we have so far.

1. No, you can't reset a Bios password on a Laptop with a simple Bios battery reset.
2. No, you can't reset a laptop hard drive locked with a password unless you access Bios on that same motherboard which is of course also locked with the security chip.

What you CAN do,

The case for Dell Laptop Security Chips, problem and solution.

Most laptop or notebook computers feature enhanced BIOS security, and BIOS passwords on laptops are hard to bypass. Several companies offer laptop security chip services that can be used to bypass the BIOS password on Dell laptops or notebooks and reset the security. They can provide a master password from the Dell Service Tag of your Dell laptop. This master password will allow you to bypass the existing password and enter the BIOS and reset the unknown password. To generate the master password they need to know the Dell Service Tag of your unit. Dell Master Password Recovery does not require soldering or disassembly of the laptop and supports most Dell models.

Dell BIOS passwords can also be reset by replacing the laptop security chip. Passwords can also be recovered from security chips that have been removed from laptop or notebook systems. These passwords may be required to attempt to unlock protected hard disks. Passwords recovered from these chips are the original BIOS passwords and may be the same as the hard disk password, but are not guaranteed to be the same and may not unlock the hard disk. These are usually damaged in the process of recovering the passwords and are not suitable for replacement into a computer.

The case for Fujitsu

Fujitsu has been leading the charge on a new generation of secure devices, as that is becoming more and more a concern not just for companies, but for individuals, who now store sensitive data on their laptops more than ever before.
The new security setup, co-developed with Willcom, consists of a special receiver and an encrypted hard drive. The decryption codes are kept on the receiver chip, and the hard drive can’t be accessed without them. So under normal operation everything is just peachy. But let’s say you get your bag stolen at a coffee shop, that’s when the fun begins.
The chip is always on whether the laptop is, and is always connected (as long as there’s coverage) to Willcom’s PHS network. You can tell it to do one of two things: lock the PC so it can’t boot, or delete the decryption key, rendering the hard drive totally unreadable.

So you see the risks with just two brands of notebook here.
You must decide if that 300 to 1500 dollar laptop is worth all this bother.

Before you decide to lock your Bios or Hard Drive with a password, you'd best be sure that you have a great memory, or the ability to securely store that password in such a way and such a place that it can't be lost.

For those who have received a laptop from a friend, bought one off of Ebay, or simply had it land in your PC shop with a password this word of warning applies. Verify that the person you got it from is the original owner or take the risk that utilities such as Dells theft deterrent program will send out information about you to the authorities. The watchword here is, If you have the Laptop, you must be guilty.

No, A laptop motherboard is not just like a Desktop motherboard squeezed into a smaller space. They are two different types of electronics entirely, right down to the processor. While some Older models of laptop can use a standard Desktop Processor, they still won't have the same replacement parts as a desktop motherboard. Your Laptop is more expensive than a comparable type of Desktop PC for other reasons than inflated pricing. The components inside are more expensive to manufacture than conventional motherboard parts and represent the best, or close to the best that micro-electronics can offer.

These rules apply to most if not all present day laptops and most laptops manufactured in the last 5 or so years. So before you buy that password locked laptop, realize that the original owner could have easily had it unlocked by the manufacturer for either a nominal fee, or in some cases for free by providing his registration and warranty information.

Yes, with the right skills, patience and time you may be able to find that pesky little security chip, and you may even be able to disable it, but you still wont have the hard drive password if one is installed, so you will be buying a new hard drive right away.

For those who decide this is something they want to try I applaud you.
Do your research, learn the 2 pin technique to clear that password, or desolder that chip and replace it with a new one. The choice is yours.

My take on all this is simple.

There are far too many Broken Laptops available on Ebay for cheap that may just need a screen replacement, keyboard, hard drive or just a new battery for me to be wasting my time trying to hack a security chip on a Laptop with no guaranteed results.

Good Luck, whatever you Decide!

Computing is usually defined as the activity of using and improving computer technology, computer hardware and software. It is the computer-specific part of information technology. Computer has taken on all aspect of our lives on planet earth today such that, we can longer live a balanced life without a balanced computing experience.

In a general way, we use balanced computing to mean any and every goal-oriented activity requiring, benefiting from, or creating solutions to our modern day problems ranging from personal life: finances, medical/ health care , music, video etc

.

To make our computing experience very fast and safe some computer programs have been designed, certified by microsft computer engineers and deployed for use.

Thus, computing includes designing and building hardware and software systems for a wide range of purposes; processing, structuring, and managing various kinds of information; doing scientific studies using computers; making computer systems behave intelligently; creating and using communications and entertainment media; finding and gathering information relevant to any particular purpose, and so on. The list is virtually endless, and the possibilities are vast.

A computer is a machine that manipulates data according to a set of instructions called a computer program. The program has an executable form that the computer can use directly to execute the instructions. The same program in its human-readable source code form, enables a programmer to study and develop the algorithm. Because the instructions can be carried out in different types of computers, a single set of source instructions converts to machine instructions according to the central processing unit type.

The execution process carries out the instructions in a computer program. Instructions express the computations performed by the computer. They trigger sequences of simple actions on the executing machine. Those actions produce effects according to the semantics of the instructions.

Computer programming in general is the process of writing, testing, debugging, and maintaining the source code and documentation of computer programs. This source code is written in a programming language, which is an artificial language, restrictive, demanding, and unforgiving to humans but easily translated by the computer. The purpose of programming is to invoke the desired behaviour (customization) from the machine. The process of writing high quality source code requires knowledge of both the application's domain and the computer science domain.

The highest quality software is thus developed by a team of various domain experts, each person a specialist in some area of development. But the term programmer may apply to a range of program quality, from hacker to open source contributor to professional. And a single programmer could do most or all of the computer programming needed to generate the proof of concept to launch a new "killer" application.

How to upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7

Windows Xp in quickly nearing its end of life as support from Microsoft is now slated to expire in April of 2011. With the release of Windows 7, users can now upgrade to the latest version of Windows that adds great functionality and also requires less computer power than the fledging Windows Vista. It is important to note that users of Windows Vista can upgrade to Windows 7 but users of Windows XP must backup files or use a migration tool such as Windows 7 Easy Transfer. Note that all applications must be reinstalled for XP users making the upgrade!

  1. Step 1

Verify that you can upgrade your computer to Windows 7 - The easiest way to determine if your computer can "handle" Windows 7 is to run the free Windows 7 Upgrade advisor from Microsoft - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/

  2. Step 2

Backup your data and files - Because you have to complete "wipe-out" and run a "clean install" of Windows 7 on an XP machine, you must backup all files that you want to preserve. The easiest way to do this is to backup to an external drive. Other options include burning to USB drives, CDs, DVDs, or posting your data to an online resource. Note that you can run the "Windows Easy Transfer" application to help copy data to your external drives. This application is included on the Windows 7 installation DVD.

  3. Step 3

Be prepared to reinstall all applications - Before "cleansing" your machine, make sure you have copies of all installs for your applications. Obviously CDs and DVDs are best. If you have a downloaded install, make sure you copy it to your backed up data in the step above.

  4. Step 4

Upgrade - Begin the upgrade process by inserting the Windows 7 DVD and double-clicking the setup.exe file if it does not start up automatically. You will be prompted to accept the license agreement, etc. Pay attention when the partition option comes up. If you want to replace your old version of Windows, select the partition that has the old XP install (this is usually the largest partition for the normal Windows user).

  5. Step 5

Restore backup up files - After the Windows 7 installation completes, you can now copy all your backed up files from your backup media to your "fresh" installation. Note that the Windows Easy Transfer application can be utilized again to speed up this process.

  6. Step 6

Clean-up your hard drive - When performing the upgrade, your old version of Windows is backed up to a Windows.old directory. To get this space back (it can be massive), run the Disk Cleanup utility which can be found at Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup. Once the application launches you can click on "Clean up system files" and select the "Previous

How to Upgrade Vista to Windows 7

You can now upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7. If you have waited for Windows 7 to be released because of the inefficiency of the Windows Vista operating system, you no longer need to wait. The Microsoft group that put together Windows 7 actually listened to their customers and made improvements where needed, and cut the system requirements of the new operating system. This article explains how to upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7.

  1. Step 1

Get a copy of the Microsoft Upgrade advisor to test compatibility with you existing programs and hardware devices before upgrading to Windows 7. A link to this program on the Microsoft website is listed in the resources section of this article. Resolve any issues indicated before proceeding.

  2. Step 2

Determine the current hardware you are using to access the internet. It should be either a LAN card or motherboard feature for the wired network connection or a Wi-fi card or motherboard feature for the wireless network connection. Once you know the manufacturer and model number, go to the manufacturer's website and download a driver for Windows 7. Do not install the driver at this time, you want to keep a copy of the file either on CD, DVD, memory card, or USB drive. This will be a lifesaver if you cannot gain internet access if the card's drivers are not included on the Windows 7 install DVD.

  3. Step 3

Save any important files you cannot live without on an external hard drive, memory cards, USB drive, or burned to DVD's next. This includes important photos, word files, excel spreadsheets, tax information, etc. that cannot be replaced.

  4. Step 4

Use the Windows 7 backup tool to make an image of your current hard drive. This software is included on the Windows 7 DVD. You may want to save some of the larger files like music, photo, and video files separately and delete these files before starting the backup in order to make the image smaller if you ever need to restore the hard drive.

  5. Step 5

Insert the Windows 7 DVD to start the upgrade. If the DVD does not autorun, then go to my computer and select the DVD drive and double click on setup.exe. The direct upgrade will work for only Windows Vista with Service pack 1 or Service pack 2 installed.

  6. Step 6

Allow Windows 7 to download the latest upgrades. During the installation Windows will give you the option. Accept the upgrades and continue. After the update is complete continue installation of Windows 7 upgrade on your existing computer.

  7. Then Download MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 OPERATING SYSTEM

WINDOWS 7 SUPPORT

The date is October 22, 2009, Windows 7 was released today. Its kind of funny, I remember when Windows XP was released and people actually stood in line to get a copy and make the transition from the 98/ME versions. When Windows Vista was released there was also a lot of fanfare that unfortunately turned sour. Vista brought with it a lot of change, and people don't like change, at least not that much.

{Windows 7 Ultimate Guide ! Download !!!}

It was too cutesy for me, lots of flash and not a lot of substance. So, today I went down to my local Staples and purchased the Windows 7 Professional upgrade to put on a machine. There wasn't a lot of fanfare and I didn't see anyone standing in line to buy the new operating system. I definitely felt like an early adopter when I paid for it and walked out of the store. Let's hope I don't regret it.

Why did I buy the professional upgrade instead of the home version? Because I want to see and test out the Windows XP Mode that is only available in the professional and ultimate versions of Windows 7.

See the chart below for a comparison (straight off the installation box) of the different versions of Windows 7.

Installing Windows 7 I'm going to install Windows 7 by reformatting and installing a fresh copy of Windows 7, instead of upgrading over a previous version.

Windows 7 will upgrade over Vista, but the upgrade path for Windows XP is more difficult. According to the directions inside the case, you should run the Windows Upgrade Advisor, then save your important files and settings to an external hard drive using the Windows Easy Transfer Utility or copy the files to a CD, DVD, or flash drive. After you've backed up your data, you need to make sure you have all the installation disks for your programs and license keys. For Windows XP, Microsoft wants you to perform a “custom (advanced)” install, and finally use the Windows Easy Transfer to restore your files and settings. Sounds like a normal “wipe the hard drive and start over procedure” to me.

Opening the installation case, I found two DVDs, one for the 32-bit installation and one for the 64=bit installation. I chose to install the 64-bit version on this particular computer. I should tell you the computer I'm installing Windows 7 on is an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ (about 2.2GHz) with 1.5GB of RAM, and a 300GB hard drive.

The installation took about 35 minutes to complete. The impressive thing was it found all the drivers for the computer right off. For the most part, it was an uneventful installation. No glitches during the install and all the drivers are installed and working properly. I was prepared for the worst, and I have to admit I'm very surprised. Everything appears to be working from the start.

In fact, I'm typing this article on the new computer (using OpenOffice 3.1)Now I need to install some more programs and see how it behaves....

I'll be updating this page frequently as I study and analyze the new operating system in the coming weeks.
