how to uninstall and remove Panda Antivirus from your computer operating system

Panda Antivirus and Panda Internet Security are fairly popular products that many people have enjoyed using. Awhile back, a customer brought in a computer and needed help installing the latest version of Panda Internet Security 2009. His computer already had Panda 2008 installed and the installation for the 2009 version was failing everytime he tried to install it.

Each time he tried to install the software, it would bring up the following screen during the installation and the installation would end. The screen told us the installation failed because "traces of previous installations have been detected" on the computer. Leaving no antivirus software installed. No matter how we uninstalled or reinstalled, the same error message appeared time and again.

Panda Antivirus Removal Failed Installation

Any removal through the Add/Remove Programs option in the Control Panel failed, because nothing regarding Panda existed in the Add/Remove listing.

I proceeded to download automatic removal utilities from Panda Software. Listed below are the normal Panda Removal programs to remove their products.

Panda 2006 Removal Utility

Panda 2007 Removal Utility

Panda 2008 Removal Utility

Panda 2009 Removal Utility

Panda 2010 Removal Utility

Panda 2011 Removal Utility

Panda 2012 Removal Utility

Unfortunately, running any of the above automatic removal programs STILL did not solve the problem and I was left with the "traces of a previous installation" error. A windows service called "Panda Process Protection Service" and a driver called "Panda Process Protection Driver" remained in the system and refused to be deleted.

Then I stumbled upon a Panda Security Utility that did the trick. If you are experiencing similar issues, please give this procedure a try.

1) Download the PandaSecurityUtility and save it to your desktop

2) Once the file is downloaded, double-click on it to run. For Windows Vista/7 users, you'll want to right-click on the file and click Run as Administrator so the program has the correct permissions to uninstall the software.

3) When the utility finishes, search the computer for the file C:\Windows\RAVTC.tmp and delete it if it exists.

4) Now reset the Winsock catalog by following these directions:

  • Click on Start, Run
  • Type CMD and press Enter
  • On the black screen, type the following command and press Enter

    netsh winsock reset catalog
  • Type Exit and press Enter to close the command prompt
5) Restart the computer

6) Install Panda software (this time it should work)

What began as a simple uninstall/reinstall job turned into about 4 hours of trouble, however at last the problem was solved. Hopefully, this information will save you time and headache if you run into the same type of problem.

how to uninstall Antivir Antivirus

Another great free antivirus program is called Antivir. It does not take up a lot of system resources and is excellent at quarantining viruses and other malware. However, like all other antivirus products, there may be times when you need to uninstall or remove it. Corrupted virus signatures have caused it not to update properly, or it wont start properly and it needs to be reinstalled.  Maybe corrupted files are causing 100% CPU usage. These and other issues can cause you to uninstall and reinstall your antivirus product.

Whatever the reason for needing to uninstall Antivir, I've listed the best procedure for doing this below:

Normal Uninstall

The first thing you want to try is to locate AntiVir in the Add/Remove Control Panel and try to remove it from there. Follow these instructions to accomplish this.

1) Click on Start, Control Panel
2) Open Add/Remove Programs
3) Find AntiVir in the Programs list and highlight it
4) Click Remove and follow the prompts to uninstall Antivir

What if Windows Security Center Shows AntiVir or other muliple Antivirus products installed

One issue with AntiVir will cause it to still show up in the Windows Security Center even when its been uninstalled properly. If this is the case, please refer to this article to resolve it.

Using the AntiVir Registry Cleaner

If for some reason the normal uninstall does not work, you may have to download AntiVir's registry cleaner utility to remove all traces of it from the registry and allow you to reinstall it.

1) Click on the following link to visit the Avira Download Page and download the AntiVir Registry Cleaner to your desktop

http://www.avira.com/en/support-download-avira-registrycleaner

2) Create a folder on your desktop called Antivir and Unzip the file to your desktop
3) Double-click on the file called RegCleaner.exe to run it Antivir regcleaner

4) Since the program is German, you'll have to click on the button called "keys asulesen" to search the registry for any issues. Then place checkmarks next to the registry entries you wish to delete.

5) Finally, click on the button called "loschen" to delete the keys

6) Restart your computer and try to reinstall your antivirus

unnstall Avast Antivirus

Even though Avast is one of my favorite antivirus products, there have been times when I've needed to uninstall or remove it. Corrupted virus signatures have caused it not to update properly, or it wont start properly and it needs to be reinstalled.  Maybe corrupted files are causing 100% CPU usage. These and other issues can cause you to uninstall and reinstall your antivirus product.

Whatever the reason for needing to uninstall Avast, I've listed the best procedure for doing this below:

Normal Uninstall

The first thing you want to try is to locate Avast in the Add/Remove Control Panel and try to remove it from there. Follow these instructions to accomplish this.

1) Click on Start, Control Panel
2) Open Add/Remove Programs
3) Find Avast in the Programs list and highlight it
4) Click Remove and follow the prompts to uninstall Avast

Using the Avast Uninstall Utility

If for some reason the normal uninstall does not work, you may have to download Avast's own Uninstall Utility.

1) Click on the following link and download the Avast Uninstall Utility to your desktop

http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe

2) Double-click on the file ASWCLEAR and run it
3) You should see the following screen

ASWClear Avast Uninstall Utility

4) Click on the ellipsis  and choose the folder where Avast is installed. This folder is usually in the Program Files directory. Ex. C:\Program Files\Avast

Be very careful which folder you choose since whatever folder is chosen will be completely deleted from your computer.

5) Once the uninstall has completed, reboot your computer. You may then try to reinstall it or another antivirus.

If for some reason the uninstall utility does not remove it, you may have to reinstall a newer version of Avast to then proceed to uninstall or you may have an issue where multiple antivirus programs are showing in the Windows Security Center.

uninstall McAfee antivirus

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is how to uninstall McAfee or Norton antivirus and security products. Maybe its because trial versions of these products were preinstalled when the customer purchased the computer, or maybe you want to uninstall McAfee and install another antivirus software product.

I've even received mail from computer users trying to install an antivirus product and they are told to uninstall McAfee before they can proceed even though it appears McAfee is not running on the system.

I'm also amazed at how many viruses attack McAfee and Norton products especially and disable them so they can wreck havoc on the computer.

My personal experience with McAfee hasn't been positive. I installed McAfee on my wife's computer a year or so ago. Everything seemed to work ok, although the antivirus slowed down her system a bit. Then roughly a year later, I look at my monthly credit card bill and see that McAfee has automatically billed me for another year of service. I was planning on removing the software and installing a free antivirus called Avast on her computer when the renewal time expired. But McAfee decided to bill me. Needless to say, I removed McAfee from her computer and called their billing department ASAP. I was told by a friendly customer service representative they autobill so customers wont be caught unprotected. Let's just say I like to control my purchases a bit more than that and didn't appreciate an automatic bill that I didnt expect. I requested a refund which I received a week later and promptly uninstalled McAfee.

One other interesting tidbit, during the research for this article. I ran the latest Hijackthis program, now owned by Trend Micro. Version 2 of Hijackthis has a few very nice features and I expected to get a list of all the files McAfee was running in the background. Instead I received the following message:

McAfee blocked Hijackthis_v2 and tells me it contains a virus. Strange since I've used Hijackthis on a daily basis and none of my antivirus products have ever alerted me to the presence of a virus in it. McAfee claims Hijackthis is infected with the W32/Generic.worm!p2p, which according to their virus database is a generic detection of worms that can propagate through P2P file-sharing software (Kazaa, Gnutella, eDonkey, Bearshare, Shareaza, Gnucleus, Limewire, Morpheus, Grokster, etc.). I don't have any of these P2P file sharing programs installed on the computer and use HijackThis on it regularly.

Just to be sure, I ran the Hijackthis_v2 file through several online file scanners and none of them found a virus in the file. This makes me question the accuracy of McAfee's virus database and file signatures.

Although you are welcome to draw your own conclusions about McAfee, that false positive was enough for me to remove it from my computer and install a free antivirus instead.

Follow the instructions below to safely remove McAfee security products including their antivirus and firewall from your computer.

Removal through the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel

In many cases, you can simply remove McAfee products through the Add/Remove Control Panel.

How to uninstall - remove Norton Antivirus and computer Security Products

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is how to uninstall Norton or McAfee antivirus and security products. Maybe its because trial versions of these products were pre-installed when the customer purchased the computer, or maybe you want to uninstall Norton Antivirus and install another antivirus software product.

I've even received mail from computer users trying to install an antivirus product and they are told to uninstall Norton before they can proceed even though it appears Symantec products are not running on the system.

I'm also amazed at how many viruses attack Norton and Symantec products especially and disable them so they can wreck havoc on the computer.

My personal experience with Norton Antivirus has been mostly positive. It seemed that each successive version seems to incorporate more functionality because it got slower and slower to use. Lately, Norton has improved its speed, but I still receive computers that have problems with Norton and I must uninstall it to make the computer work. Although I wrote an article on how to speed up the windows boot process, one of the best ways always is to uninstall Norton and install a free antivirus product. I've also experienced situations where internet access is completely shut down and many times uninstalling all of the Norton Antivirus or firewall products on the computer fixes this issue.

Follow the instructions below to safely remove Norton and Symantec security products including their antivirus and firewall from your computer

Removal through the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel

In many cases, you can simply remove Norton products through the Add/Remove Control Panel.

1) Click on Start, Click on Control Panel
2) Double-click on Add or Remove Programs
3) Find the Symantec or Norton product listed and click on it. It should look similar to the following

4) Click on Remove
5) You'll see a screen similar to the one below. Click the Remove All button to start the removal process.

6) Once the removal process completes, you'll be asked to restart the computer. Go ahead and reboot at that time.

7) After rebooting Norton should be removed from your system.

If for some reason, the normal uninstall does not remove it, I recommend following the automatic uninstall instructions below to remove any leftover Symantec or Norton security products.

Removing Norton Automatically

Norton has created an automatic removal program to remove the following software products when the normal removal methods fail.  Warning: if you use ACT! or WinFAX, back up those databases and uninstall those products as well. The removal tool will remove the following software products from your computer.

  • Norton AntiSpam 2004 - 2005
  • Norton Antivirus 2003 - 2011
  • Norton Ghost 2003, 9.0, and 10.0
  • Norton GoBack 3.1 - 4.2

If a new email client has been installed after AVG, you'll need to uninstall it and reinstall it so this email program is protected.

Whatever the reason for needing to uninstall AVG, I've listed the best procedure for doing this below:

Is There an Uninstall Utility?

For a long time, AVG did not provide a removal utility. In those cases, you had to reinstall AVG and then uninstall it. A time consuming procedure. However in recent years, AVG has developed a removal utility for both 32 bit and 64 bit computer systems. The links to these utilities are below:

How to remove spyware with McAfee?

I've determined that my pc is infected with spyware. Every link I click gets redirected, my pc is slow, and there is a note named, problems, which I did not write. The note says this:

1. you may not connect/perform windows updates
2. you cannot turn off/on your firewall
3. you cant disable your antivirus software

And yes, it was all written in lowercase. I actually went on my firewalls, Windows and McAfee, and they were both turned off and I was not able to turn them back on. I am doing a full scan with McAfee right now. If McAfee can't find the spyware, what can I do? I am not hiring someone to manually remove it.

ipad versus laptop vs netbook, notebok - Which is The Best?

iPad Versus Laptop Versus Notebook-Which is The Best?

All the ten listed top laptops for bloggers are bound to offer great services for blogging. They are all easy to carry around while still providing the blogger with high quality performance. Their tiny statures do not make them ineffective or slow laptops. Furthermore, this does not mean that they are only useful in blogging and nothing else. No. The fact is that when you are not blogging, you can use these laptops to do other jobs, or functions. They are handy for multitasking facilities.

The advent of great technological advancements have brought about wonderful gadgets hitherto thought unimaginable only a few years ago. A few of these gadgets that a short while back were thought of as nothing but a luxury  are gradually becoming as necessities, including iPad, laptops and notebook. Out of these three gadgets, iPad is the most recent creation for the other two have been in the market for quite a while now. They have functional similarities and differences as well.

Areas of Differences between iPad vs Laptop vs Notebook

1.      Typing Speed : One of the areas that provide great differences in the functions of iPad, Laptop and Notebook is that of typing. Currently, it appears that the laptop provides better speed for people interested in knowing how the three measure up in this regard. You can type nearly twice as many words on the laptop as you can on the iPad and notebook. However, for short blog posts and messages or typing work, iPad and notebook appear to provide more enjoyment.

2.      Keyboard position : While this may not appeal to many people, it is only when you get an iPad that you will notice the difference. When looking at the iPad versus laptop versus notebook issue, you will notice that with the iPad the keyboard can be positioned either on the portrait or landscape orientation. This can reduce the monotony that is associated with typing. However, if you desire traditional keyboards, then the laptop and notebook provide the best option for you.

3.      Multitasking features : In most quarters, it appears that the laptop and notebooks have been given a thumbs up over the iPad as regards multitasking features. Some of the latest notebooks come with features that allow the user to open several windows side by side and monitor all the work being done at any given moment. This is not a strong point of iPads. If you need to multitask, then you must close the window or app you were working on previously

4.      Pricing : At the end of the day, this is one of the main factors which drives some people to purchase one and leave the other one. It’s relatively cheaper to get a good iPad than it is to get a good laptop or notebook. An iPad would require around $199 minimum to purchase, while it can go up to $499 maximum. Laptops and notebooks, on the other hand, are priced at rates that start from $449 and may go all the way up to $999.

5.      Software and Screen Resolution : When viewing images on either laptops or notebooks, you enjoy resolution of up to 1366 x 768 pixels while those of an iPad are 1028 x 768 pixels. In essence this means that the image looks better on the laptop or notebook than on the iPad. Laptops and notebooks have space for more software than iPads.

Looking at iPad vs Laptop vs Notebook, it is all about the purpose or kind of work you wish these devices to help you perform. An iPad is more about fun while laptops and notebooks are more about getting the work done.

Make Windows 7 Operating System Boot Up faster and instantly

How To Make Windows 7 Boot Up Instantly – Working Tricks From Experts

Even though Windows has been designed to boot up faster than any previous operating system, it doesn’t always do so. This is inevitable if you use your computer frequently, as we have the tendency to load up numerous programs on our hard drives, which clogs up the system.

As you keep on installing programs that run simultaneously with Windows when it boots up, it is a consequence that the booting process will become longer – most notably if the programs you have eat up a big chunk of your computer’s memory space. Another reason for slow booting up is that the registry of your PC will have settings that get corrupted or damaged, and this will make Windows much slower in accomplishing its tasks in the start up process.

How Can You Make Windows 7 Boot Up Faster?

Several techniques can used to help your computer start up faster. Take note that Windows 7 is actually configured to load and start up very quickly if it’s running correctly. Some of the things you can do would be to delete programs in the start up list or halt some features of Windows like the Sidebar, Aero Theme and Search Indexing. You can also remove services and visual effects that are not needed and eliminate the User Account Control feature. Lastly, perhaps the best way to make your computer start faster is to simply run a registry cleaner and fix errors in that part of the hard drive.

A simple first method we can try is to uninstall the unneccesary programs in the system that will automatically load up as soon as Windows starts. Booting time is definitely affected by these programs, as your computer will finish the booting process only when it has loaded every application that has been incorporated in the start up list. You have to identify these programs, and if you think they are not that useful, or if you decide they use huge amounts of resources and are therefore something you can live without, then by all means remove them from your PC. You can do this by selecting “Start” and then going to the “Control Panel” and then to the “Programs and Features”. From here, choose the programs and then press “Uninstall”.

These steps will delete the programs and you can expect your PC to speed up its booting time considerably after following the process. To make Windows boot even faster still, we need to eliminate the junk files from the computer. Dozens files are accumulated over time as you continuously use your PC, and most of them are regarded as junk; things like the temporary internet files etc. It is suggested that you regularly remove these files, including those you downloaded and items that were deleted but still sitting in the Recycle Bin, as these files have all been identified as making Windows boot up process lag.

Get rid of unwanted junk files by selecting “Start” and then going to the “All Programs” followed by “Accessories”. Then you can proceed by locating “System Tools” and choosing “Disk Cleanup”. Pick the drive that needs to be cleaned and then press “OK”. Windows will then calculate the disk space that would be freed up after running the Disk Cleanup. Once it is finished calculating, mark the check boxes located on the left side of the files that you intend to delete. Afterwards select “OK” and finally, press the ‘Delete Files”. Another option for deleting unwanted files is to “Clean up system files”, which can be found in the “Disk Cleanup” utility for Windows. Repeat the steps outlined above.

The final step is to clean the registry of your system. The registry is the central database that stores important file settings and options. Windows will read these settings in order to run and properly load up all of its files. As the registry gets damaged and corrupted (this happens a lot), it will cause problems and errors that will make Windows be unable to read many of these file settings. When this happens, Windows will run much slower, especially during the booting stage. To resolve this issue and speed up your PC’s start up process, you have to download and run a reliable registry cleaning tool.
